Children's Narratives are a big contributor to the tourism sector in any part of the world. They are used as a focal point throughout destinations, sometimes unrealised! For example: Beatrix Potter in the Lake District, Alice in Wonderland in Llandudno N.Wales, Tales of the Mabinogion from across Wales, Gelert's Grave in Beddgelert, in the heart of Snowdonia are just a few Narratives that contribute Millions to local economies.
Folk and Fairy Tales, Myths, Legends and Historical Narratives are key to engaging and provided entertaining value and purpose for attracting any visitor to a destination. In the age of the digital tourist, enterprises need to utilise technologies that enhances accessibility and engagement, this is where we come!
Children's Characters as Narrative within tourism are nothing new, yet the mediums that surround them are very often linear. DigiMe have tremendous experience and success in helping organisations fully realise the great potential of Narrative within Tourism and provide organizations and communities to generate new and successful eco driven economies, to form new Social Enterprises as a result.
In 2011, DigiMe were commissioned to carry out consultancy for the Digital Tourism and Communities Framework, a feasibility study on behalf of the Welsh Assembly Government and Visit Wales.
The feasibility study looked to create a digital platform that utilised the historical and cultural connection to the Tales of the Mabinogion, that encompasses both mobile applications and website (portal) with social media, enabling users to experience the Mabinogion Tales around the locations indicated in the writings or illustrated in the stories. The success of this study has enabled several Social Enterprises to be setup.
